Insurance Update

Any newborns/additions to your insurance coverage need to be added within thirty (30) days of birth, etc. Please see Melanie Lanich in the insurance office to complete any necessary paperwork to insure your new dependant.

Please remember that there is a $100 co-pay for emergency room visits that are not coded there as an emergency or accident. This $100 co-pay does not then apply to your deductible or max out-of-pocket.

Before seeing a physician remember to check on the status of any physician you see to determine that that person is A) in the network, and B) an endorsed provider through IHN (Indiana Health Network). These two requirements require the minimal expense for our members.

Regarding prescription drugs: Immediate drugs are still filled at local pharmacies. Any drug to be taken over two or more months are considered "maintenance drugs" and shall be obtained through CareMark Mail Service pharmacy. If you get these maintenance drugs filled at a local pharmacy then you will be required to pay for them at 100% of cost. The CareMark Mail Service was instituted in 2006 is the only way to obtain long-term or "maintenance drugs" (other than CanaRx).

Changes in the Legal Defense Plan

The trustees of the State FOP Legal Defense Fund voted unanimously in the Spring Board Meeting (2005) to approve two additional benefits to the plan, with no extra cost. The two new changes are a salary reimbursement option (SRO) and expanded call out for police shootings or other serious situations.

SRO can be taken once a suspension is imposed and lets the member to choose up to three (3) days actual loss of pay (based on hourly, regular rate), or Five Hundred Dollars ($500) whichever is less. This reimbursement only applies to suspension administered for up to five (5) days and the member can not appeal the suspension.

The new call out procedure now gives the member an option of calling a plan attorney to the scene of a critical incident and advise the member as to his or her legal rights instead of handling the matter over the telephone. Non-critical and non-emergency matters will still be handled via telephone.
